CHANDLER, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) – Chandler Police released video mounted on a body-worn camera of a shootout where officers fired their guns at a suspected domestic violence suspect.
The incident happened at around 7 a.m. on September 17 at a hotel near the Chandler Fashion Center shopping mall. Police were responding to a report of a woman asking to hide in a client’s hotel room. When police arrived, a guest told police that a man was running towards the parking lot.
Body camera footage shows the man, now identified as Brandon Shaun Aldecoa, 43, was seen hiding from an officer in the bed of a van. At one point, videos show Aldecoa staring with an object. Police say it was a gun in his right hand and he started firing as officers gave him orders.
Aldecoa was taken to hospital in critical condition, but was later released and arrested. The exact charges he faces were not disclosed.
Police said the two officers were assigned to the Desert Breeze neighborhood. One officer has 24 years of service in the ministry, while another has six. The shoot will be reviewed by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. A separate commission on the use of force is also expected to review the incident.
