A Cork man who spent years abroad managing at some of the UK’s top hotels has returned home to take up his post at one of the best in Cork City.
After nearly a decade in the UK, the Cork native spent over 10 years working across Ireland but eventually returned home.
Eoghan Murphy is the new General Manager of Cork International Hotel, which is consistently ranked as one of Cork’s best hotels to stay thanks to its number 2 ranking on TripAdvisor.
The 4-star hotel is also highly regarded as one of Cork City’s premier wedding hotels.
Eoghan said he was “delighted” to finally be able to work in Cork again. He said, “It’s wonderful to continue my career in my hometown and be part of an organization that is passionate about giving back to the local community.
“I am delighted to take on this role,
“The past two years have been difficult, but the strength, determination and resilience shown by each member of the team has been truly inspiring.”
After graduating from Shannon College of Hotel Management, Eoghan flew to London where he spent time in luxury hotels including the Waldorf Hilton, Kingsway Hall and Apex City London.
Returning to Ireland in 2008, he held positions in Dublin, Armagh and Belfast at hotels including Croke Park Hotel, Armagh City Hotel and Radisson Beklfast.
But Cork was calling, and in 2016 Eoghan was deputy general manager of the Mardyke Entertainment Complex.
After more managerial work in Cork, he moved in 2019 as Deputy Managing Director of Cork International, just before the pandemic hit.
After a difficult pandemic, Eoghan was appointed chief executive in May.
He takes over as Managing Director of Carmel Lonergan who was recently appointed Group Operations Director at Trigon Hotels.
