COVID-19 Impacts Georgia’s Hospitality Industry | New

ATLANTA (CBS46) – Flight bookings have fallen since July and industry experts say this trend is expected to continue into the holiday season.

In addition to this downward trend, some travelers say overseas travel to destinations like Europe is not worth running into possible roadblocks due to COVID-19.

“I’m afraid if I go down there and my test is positive I’ll be stuck there for 14 days in quarantine,” said Warren Luciani, who canceled a trip to a friend’s wedding. “And with my business and I being the owner, I just can’t take this chance.”

Adobe Analytics reports that August flight bookings are down 24% from July. Travelers are also adjusting their vacation plans as Thanksgiving flights are down 18% from this period in 2019.

A report from the American Hotel and Lodging Association shows that hotel business travel to Georgia is currently down nearly 61% from 2019. While Adobe Analytics reports that flight prices have fallen by about 22% at the start of September, it’s not about the money for some travelers who say they are disappointed that they continue to miss out on life’s great moments.

“It was a heartbreaking call to our closest friends,” said Luciani. “And they got it, you know, they would like us to go. But unfortunately, we’re going to miss the wedding.”
