MANILA, Philippines — The Hotel Sales and Marketing Association concluded the eighth edition of the Virtus Awards last Tuesday to recognize the efforts of hospitality professionals.

The annual awards night which brought together hospitality sales and marketing professionals from across the country was held at Okada Manila, Entertainment City, Parañaque City. Guests include the HSMA Board of Directors, distinguished jurors, Virtus nominees, HSMA members and members of the press.

During this ceremony, not only were outstanding hospitality professionals recognized, but the resilience of the industry was also highlighted.

In his speech, outgoing HSMA President Benjie Martinez said 2022 had seen some remarkable stories about the resilience of the hospitality industry.

“We are breaking free from the pandemic, but challenges persist as we struggle to bring back pre-pandemic market sales and demand. We are called to be more resourceful, think outside the box and be able to pivot faster,” he said.

Martinez also announced that HSMA’s one-month September online sale concluded successfully after generating 35 million pesos in gross sales. A total of 78 member hotels and resorts participated in the online sale.

“We now celebrate milestones, breakthroughs and excellence in the hotel and resort industry,” he said.

The HSMA Chairman congratulated all finalists for seizing opportunities and continuing business for their properties despite the challenges facing the travel and tourism industry. He said they deserved the Virtus Awards.

The following winners were named at the 8th Virtus Awards:

Excellent sales and marketing associate

  • Jhune Nin?o T. Calinawan – Banquet Sales Manager; Quest Hotel & Conference Center-Cebu

Outstanding Sales and Marketing Manager

  • Marie Antonnette De Belen – Senior Commercial Director; Conrad Manila

Outstanding Head of Sales and Marketing

  • Michelle Angeli Crudo – Director of Sales; Novotel Manila Araneta City

Outstanding Marketing Campaign

  • I love the Earth – Newport World Resorts

HSMA President Rose Libongco also extended her congratulations to the Virtus Award winners.

“I extend my hearty congratulations to the winners of the Virtus Awards and add a caveat: winning is far from the ultimate goal. The day you are declared the winner is not the pinnacle of success. C This is really just the start of your odyssey,” Libongco said in his speech.

“Each day the striker is your opportunity to prove yourself the right winner. Watchful eyes are on you to continue to demonstrate excellence in purpose, plan and action, thereby directly educating others, inspiring by example and converting others to the philosophy of victory until you form a like-minded army that will make your goals attainable, replicate them, and eventually perpetuate your ideals of achievement,” she added. .

The HSMA said the Virtus Awards are an assurance that the industry will continue under unprecedented circumstances.

“Everything will be fine, because individually and collectively, we will continue undeterred and united. In the process of organizing and executing the Virtus Awards, we honor the value of real-world learning, the exchange of best practices, the demonstration of productive sales interactions and qualified customer engagement, the demonstration of enthusiasm in the midst of difficulties, the emphasis on solutions to problems, the positive attitude rather than complacency or worse, defeat in the face of overwhelming difficulties”, she concluded.

The Virtus Awards, with the theme “Breakthrough 2022”, are supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Tourism Promotions Board Philippines and Atlantis.

The eighth cycle of the Virtus Awards was the first in-person awards night in over two years.
