Six fire engines were on the scene at the height of the massive blaze at the Chilton Country Club and Hotel in Blackboy Lane, Fence Houses.
The County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service control room sent crews from as far away as Consett Fire Station to the scene, as well as the aerial ladder platform and the bulk water carrier service.
