Longtime tenant of Adrian Inn evicted to make room for residents of Riverview Terrace

ADRIAN, MI (WTVG) – A Michigan man named Jeff, who wishes to keep his complete identity private, tells 13abc that he was officially kicked out of the Adrian Inn around 2:00 a.m. Thursday afternoon. Now he says he has nowhere to go.

“I just feel like I’ve been lied to and cheated on and taken advantage of,” Jeff said.

Jeff says he’s been staying at the Adrian Inn for over a year, adding that the extended stay meant the most to him after both his parents died and he couldn’t live with them anymore.

“I was there paying rent and stuff, and was promised I could stay there no questions asked,” Jeff said.

No questions asked, until Wednesday.

“They brought something to my room and said I had to get out of there at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon or I would be subject to arrest,” Jeff said.

13abc spoke to the hotel’s on-site manager who said he had to force Jeff out after the city bought the hotel to accommodate displaced residents of Riverview Terrace who were forced out of the building due to serious structural problems.

The manager also confirmed that Jeff was only told a day before they were kicking him out, adding that he was not a resident of Riverview Terrace so they could no longer house him.

Now, with such a short eviction notice and not much money, Jeff tells 13abc he has nowhere to go.

“They swore up and down that I wouldn’t be kicked out and all of a sudden now it’s like I’m walking away,” Jeff said.

Jeff and hotel management confirm there was no contractual agreement, but Jeff says he paid rent for the rest of that month. We are checking if he can at least get that money back.
