WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.— The Purdue Board of Directors has announced the name change of Purdue University’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management to White Lodging-JW Marriott Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

In Friday’s announcement, the Union Club Hotel will also be named as an “autographed” property.

“I hope Bruce and Beth (White) know there is no way to express how important they have been to Purdue University even before today,” said Mitch Daniels, president of Purdue. “This is yet another great announcement I can make.”

Bruce and Beth White and the Dean and Barbara White Family Foundation pledge of $ 5 million will help develop a hospitality award program.

The Union Club Hotel was built on the West Lafayette campus of Purdue University from 1929 to 1953. White Lodging, founded by Bruce White, partnered with Purdue in 2019 to completely renovate the Union Club Hotel in order to include a new restaurant, bar and coffee counter, depending on White Lodging website.

“Marriott and White Lodging have had a wonderful relationship over the years,” said Liam Brown, president of Marriott Group. “And Mr. Marriott and the entire Marriott family are touched by this recognition.”

The Marriott Group has worked with Purdue for many years, including at Marriott Hall, which Brown says has been supported by the Marriott Family Foundation for nearly a decade.

The Union Club Hotel was also advertised as an Autograph property.

“The Autograph Collection hotels are a group of more than 200 independent hotels around the world,” Brown explained. “Hand-selected for their distinct outlook on design and hospitality.”
