We love to fill the winter months with easy, relaxing weekend getaways that help us lean into the season or forget about the dropping temperatures for a minute. The best way to do this is to block the dates of some of the more recent hotel openings near us, which allow us to get away from it all to a new place. From cool all-inclusives on the beach to a reimagined Florida Grande Dame, these are the latest hotel openings to help you beat the winter blues.

The Virginian Lodge, Jackson, Wyoming
Where he is: The Virginian Lodge is less than a mile from the charming heart of downtown Jackson (with its cozy bars and restaurants, surprisingly good galleries and vintage shops), a short drive from Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and a Convenient base for exploring near Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.
Why we are excited: Honestly, it doesn’t take too much to get us excited about this part of Wyoming with its insanely good winter skiing, excellent hiking and mountain biking in summer and fall, and insane natural beauty no matter what the season. . That said, we believe this renovated 165 room mountain hotel is a very good reason to revisit Jackson. It channels the motor lodges of the 1960s and 1970s with hallways of rooms facing the exterior and a large swimming pool in the courtyard. Its atmosphere skews the groovy western (a bit like old TV shows Grizzly adams and Little house in the meadow; they’re supposed to be set in the late 1800s, but somehow the 1970s still shine): wood-paneled walls hung with cowboy oil paints and the required amount of taxidermy, mauve rugs and a cart-wheeled chandelier in the lobby. Sure, it’s a bit campy, but if there’s ever a place to embrace the wild west (through the lens of Elton John’s oversized rose-colored glasses), it’s here. The hotel is slated to open in January 2022, and later this spring Billy’s Burgers, Jackson’s now-closed institution, will find a new home at the lodge, along with The Saloon and Ginny’s Bottle Shop. From $ 159 per night
