History buffs looking for a vacation destination don’t need to look past this list.
Historic Hotels of America recently named its top Historic Hotel Award winners for 2021, which highlighted a variety of locations built in the 19th and 20th centuries.
“The winners are the best historic hotels and hotels in the United States of America,” said Lawrence Horwitz, executive vice president of Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide, in a commentary. Press release.

“The winners were selected from nominated iconic historic hotels, including small historic inns, historic boutique hotels, historic lifestyle hotels and legendary historic resorts. They represent small towns to large cities towards UNESCO World Heritage destinations, ”Horwitz added. “We applaud the dedication and passion of the thousands of people working at these iconic and legendary hotels that keep the stories of the past alive and make special occasion stays or celebrations at these historic hotels a memorable experience.

The Palmer House in Chicago won the “Best Historic Hotel” award in the 400+ rooms category from Historic Hotels of America. The Hilton opened in 1871 and was the first hotel in town to have elevators, light bulbs, and in-room telephones. Historic Hotels of America selected this 262-foot property for its Best Historic Hotel award for its positive guest experience, hospitality and service.

Historic Hotels in America’s Best Historic Resort
Hilton is once again on the list of America’s “best” historic hotels with the Hotel del Coronado, part of the Hilton Curio collection. Hotel del Coronado won the Historic Society’s “Best Historic Resort” award. Located in Coronado, California, this iconic hotel has been in business for 133 years. Guests took advantage of over 750 rooms, a 28-acre Victorian resort, which earned the property its historic price tag.

The Blackburn Inn & Conference Center
Historic Hotels in America’s Best Historic Small Hotel / Inn
The Blackburn Inn & Conference Center in Staunton, Virginia impressed Historic Hotels of America with its level of customer service. Within its 80-acre grounds, the inn has served guests since 1828. The 49-room property won the “Best Small Inn / Historic Hotel” category, which Historic Hotels of America qualifies as having less than 75 rooms. According to the historic company, the Blackburn Inn & Conference Center “offers exceptional hospitality and customer service.”
